Step-by-step instructions
Verify your home has GFCI protection where required
Walk through and identify outlets in: kitchen counter areas, bathrooms, garages, basements, outdoor locations, anywhere within 1.5m of a sink.
Each should have a GFCI outlet (with TEST/RESET buttons) OR be on a GFCI-protected circuit (downstream of a GFCI outlet).
If not protected, code may not require retroactive upgrade but it's strongly recommended for safety.
Test GFCI monthly
Press TEST on each GFCI outlet. The outlet should cut power immediately.
